Their program focused on several programs one of which was the Work Release program which allows inmates to work for pay in the free community (monitored, of course), return to a secure facility during their nonworking hours. Fines that are imposed on offenders is collected directly from the participants’ paycheck saving tax dollars. They also explained how modern day technology in the ankle bracelets allows them to monitor where those individuals are at all times. Additionally they spoke about Community Service where individuals that commit non-violent crimes can serve community service hours. Some of these service hours can be spent maintaining county vehicles and property. This additionally saves the county money that they would normally spend paying someone to clean and maintain county property. Hoss is also a member and Past President of the Robertsdale Rotary Club.

Robertsdale Rotary Club conducted a Community Needs Assessment and through the Council on Aging found Mr. Amos who is recovering from a broken hip. He had also recently lost several members of his immediate family and is basically alone. Our Community Service Project consisted of doing a major clean-up of his yard which was very overgrown. We cut grass, trimmed bushes, cleared flower beds, cleaned vines from railings, trimmed trees, cut down trees and removed debris that had accumulated in the yard. The City of Loxley worked with us in the pickup of garbage and yard clippings free of charge. After a full morning of work and fun, we invited Mr. Amos to come outside and eat a picnic lunch with us. Though a lot of work we all really enjoyed the fellowship with our fellow Rotarians! Mr. Amos was overwhelmed with emotion and appreciation. We were not able to complete all of the work so we all agreed that we should complete Phase II of this clean-up the first part of 2013.
